Once you have come to the decision that working from home is the answer for you, finding legitimate work at home jobs and business opportunities can often be a time consuming endeavor. This is mostly due to these opportunities being a strange mix of legitimate resources and time wasting scams. There are many scams in existence that one needs to be aware of. Scams can and do come in all forms, shapes and sizes.

One of the biggest scams on the internet is the mass produced lists of Work at Home jobs and business opportunities. These are typically a compilation of jobs and opportunities that are available to all who search the internet. These lists are usually outdated and exhausted, if they are true opportunities at all. The list owners usually price the lists low enough for interested parties not to think twice about paying for the lists.

There should not be too much of a difference when going about finding a Work at Home job as when you are looking for traditional employment. The standard resources would still be the newspapers, trade magazines, job search sites, company job hotlines and web sites, newsgroups, and message boards. You should also network; speak to everyone about your desire to work at home. You never know if that person can be a vital link or know of someone who can assist you in your search.

Also, you really don't need to travel too far in order to search; you have the best search tool at home. The Internet has become one of the best places where you can search for home based jobs and opportunities. You should remember to search on different search engines and use different key words when doing so.

Do not be discouraged by the low ratio of traditional employment and work at home positions. When reading of a position that matches your skills, ask yourself if this job could be done from your home office? There are many times that we need to educate the employer and demonstrate the advantages of fulfilling the requirements needed without working in their offices. It is your responsibility to take the initiative and inform the prospective employers of the increasingly popular telecommuting aspect of employment.

Once you have come to the conclusion that working from home is for you, beware of the scams, search all conventional avenues and take the initiative! It's well worth the initial hard work you invest.
